For nearly a decade, workers and activists of faith and compassion have lifted up the dire need to raise the minimum wage. Now, a bill to raise the minimum wage to $15/hr has been announced in Congress, and the Biden Administration has included the new minimum as part of COVID- relief.
As a coalition of supporters for this economic justice policy, we’ve never been closer to victory. So now we must tell Congress to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 during the first 100 Days of the 117th Congress. We must ask them to support the Raise the Wage Act of 2021 (S.150 / H.R.582) as a first step, and do everything in their power to win $15/hr nationwide. Congress must raise the minimum wage from the poverty-level wage of $7.25/hr to something that helps Americans win back the benefits of productivity gains since the 1970s.
