Member of Congress Judy Chu gave a policy talk in support of UUSJ and wildfire victims on Monday, January 27. Please make donations in support.
Our receipts for this policy talk event will be split with victims of the California wildfires through the UUA Disaster Relief Fund.
The policy talk has occurred but if you can, please consider giving a little more. Let us show compassion and solidarity with the communities impacted by the fires.
Today, our work is more important than ever to defend our faith, our families, our freedoms and our futures. Unitarian Universalists for Social Justice (UUSJ), a 501(c)(3), needs your support to ensure we can continue our efforts in the areas of witness, education, and advocacy. We hold sacred the inherent worth and dignity of every person and strive for a truly multicultural democracy.
UUSJ provides a unique vehicle in our nation's Capital for engaging in national dialogues, civic actions, and advocacy efforts on issues facing our country in real-time, consistent with UU values in support of our mission to advocate, educate and empower to achieve just equitable national policies and actions.
Thank you for supporting UUSJ and helping us show care for the victims of the CA Wildfires
Your support for our event with Congresswoman Judy Chu and Rev. Joseph Santos-Lyons of DRUUMM is appreciated.
Judy Chu was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in July 2009. Rep. Chu currently serves on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over taxes, revenues, Social Security, and Medicare legislation. In that Committee, Rep. Chu is a member of the Subcommittees on Health, which gives her oversight over healthcare reform and crucial safety net programs, Worker and Family Support, and Oversight. She also serves on the House Small Business Committee, which has oversight of the Small Business Administration, as well as the House Budget Committee.
For our part at UUSJ, we know Congresswoman Chu is one of our own; we know she acts for justice. See her profile in UU World magazine, If Our Voices Are United, We Can Make a Difference. Let's hear her insights on the path forward as we endeavor to "Meet the Moment" (GA 2025 theme).
Rev. Joseph Santos-Lyons (he/they) is DRUUMM Community Minister and Chief of Staff for Rep. Khanh Pham, Oregon State Legislature.
