Medicare for All, the Need is Clear
As people of faith, we are called to embody compassion, justice, and love for our neighbor. We have a sacred duty to care for the sick, uplift the vulnerable, and build a society that reflects the dignity of every human being.
Yet, in our nation today, millions of our neighbors live in fear of medical costs. Families are forced to choose between putting food on the table and seeing a doctor. The sick avoid care due to cost, and medical debt is a leading cause of bankruptcy. This is not just a policy failure; it is a moral crisis.
We have a historic opportunity to answer this call. The Medicare for All Act of 2025 has been introduced in Congress. This legislation would guarantee comprehensive healthcare as a right, not a privilege, to every person in the United States.
The Medicare for All Act of 2025 refers to two related bills, S.1506 and H.R.3069, introduced in the 119th Congress, that would establish a national health insurance program to provide comprehensive, premium-free coverage to all U.S. residents.
Why does this matter to us as a faith community?
This is our moment to be a voice for the voiceless and to advocate for a system of healing, not hardship.

As of General Assembly 2024, as Unitarian Universalists, we have agreed to “adopt new language on core religious values.” We agree love is the power that holds us together and is at the center of our shared values. The values we share include all the following, which we hold as inseparable and deeply interconnected: Interdependence, Pluralism, Justice, Transformation, Generosity, and Equity. (Read more on the Article II revision process.)
With these agreed core religious values in mind, we also ground our call to action related to health, hunger, and poverty issues in the following Unitarian Universalist Statements:
