UUSJ Democracy Leaders Event
Wednesday, May 22
7:30pm ET - 6:30pm CT - 5:30pm MT - 4:30pm PT
Our democracy is in peril, and this has an impact on all of our social justice work. It is clear that we need to mobilize our UU congregations to work to save our democracy.
The UUSJ Democracy Action Team is convening Democracy Leaders in an ongoing discussion series about how we can can contribute to a pro-democracy movement capable of thwarting the autocratic movement emerging in the U.S.
This meeting series will help us join forces and work together towards a common goal.
Featured Topic:
Andrew Batcher, Social Justice Coordinator at Cedar Lane UUC, MD and UUC of Fairfax, VA, will talk about his experience as a movement organizer, with an eye towards pragmatic overview, lessons learned and key skills, so that you can adopt and adapt such understandings for your work.
Andrew has worked in Occupy, the peace movement, Black Lives Matter, and countering hate groups. Andrew will highlight some of the unique characteristics of social movements and movement organizing dynamics. His pragmatic overview will be followed by lively and energizing discussion.
Attend this unique opportunity to learn from Andrew's invaluable experience and contribute to our Democracy Movement efforts.
