Tell your Senators:
Our Neighbors Need Build Back Better with Pathways to Citizenship
Everything in the House-passed version of Build Back Better is under negotiation in the Senate, particularly among the caucus in leadership. Among the most hotly debated issues are pathways to citizenship for all 11 million undocumented immigrants, not just the temporary House provisions covering 7 million undocumented neighbors in our communities.
For that, the Senate must be brave and disregard the parliamentarian’s advice, as many allies are urging. For this reason, this action contacts Senate Democrats exclusively. Senate Republicans are not involved in this aspect of negotiations. They have repeatedly said immigration factors in BBB are for the other caucus.
Our voices of solidarity can make a difference, they matter. It is urgent and vital to press Congress on their pledge to pass a pathway to citizenship during the 117th session, this year.
The Senate must protect the House proposal elements and build on them to cover all 11 million in the Build Back Better Act.
Acting On Multiple Fronts:
UUSJ’s action teams, and many of its allies, are all responding to the legislative moment and focusing on the Build Back Better Act (BBB). Advocates are trying to save this productivity package from faltering, for fear of what it means for our people, communities, and the planet. Each has distinct reasons for engaging and is responding to slightly different needs. And in the background, all are worried about the precedent set with democracy legislation during January.
UUSJ is compelled to provide an opportunity for each team responding to this circumstance, but encourages you to act for all! (Please return to the main webpage.)
For Immigration Justice, the Immigration Action Team invites you to urge the inclusion of Pathways to Citizenship in BBB.
