For that reason, UUSJ supports H.R. 40, and S.40 the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans Act as reintroduced in 2023. The very least we can do is to "study and recommend."
The effort to pass this legislation merits our continued engagement.
In January 2023 H.R. 40 and S. 40 were reintroduced after achieving a historic first in 2022, when The House Judiciary Committee voted H.R. 40 out of committee, and onto the floor for full consideration for the first time since H.R. 40's introduction in 1989. The 2022 Senate Companion bill was likewise introduced and referred to its Committee on the Judiciary.
