UUSJ is coming together with UUA-SWL, UUSC and UU Rise to co-host a UU day of action calling Congress in defense of immigrants and against the misuse and codification of Title 42 via the Appropriations process. #RestoreAsylum #EndTitle42
As part of the Interfaith Immigration Coalition (IIC) and Welcome with Dignity we are hosting the lead-off call-in day on July 19th at Noon Eastern, as part of a two-week effort from July 18-31, 2022, by interfaith partners.
We will share some grounding and context, and then get to work using a click-to-call tool to ring our members of Congress, both our Senators and Representatives. We will urge them to prevent any and all Title 42/anti-asylum amendments from passing on any piece of legislation or through the Appropriations process.
July 19th is the day we are committed to mobilizing our faith for calls to our Members of Congress. In this, we join multiple organizations that have signed up for other days.
Be sure to join the IIC-hosted educational webinar on Monday, July 18 at 4 pm ET, details are available below.
IIC Webinar:
“Heal Not Harm - Restore Asylum Now!”
Monday, July 18,
4pm ET I 3pm CT I 2pm MT I 1pm PT
How do we end the deadly "Title 42" policy and restore access to asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border? Even months after the CDC tried to revoke it, the courts have kept it in place. Now there is a risk of Title 42 becoming permanent law if we don’t stop legislators from attaching it to essential funding bills and COVID relief. Join this multi-faith event hosted by the Interfaith Immigration Coalition to get critical updates on asylum access in the US, particularly on the status and impact on Title 42. We'll then prepare to take action together for the "Heal Not Harm" weeks of action to demand an end to Title 42 and a restoration of life-affirming asylum policies.
Closed captions, as well as Spanish and Creole interpretation, will be available. A video will be sent to all registrants who are not able to attend day-of.
