This is a pivotal moment. We’ve said it's the fight of our generation.
The people of Minnesota and the community in Minneapolis have shown the way forward: putting aside minor conflicts and differences to address the common moral crisis. Responding with presence, solidarity, mutual aid, and peaceful, even if boisterous, neighborly defense. Sharing acts of both mundane and bold character by everyday people.
With their movement, Minnesota has earned national attention in its demand for justice after the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, the kidnapping of abduction of 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos (BBC).
Minnesota has named this an invasion, they say-- ICE Out! Others have helped call attention to this matter and its implications:
The locals are not just outraged but also mobilizing, and organizing, demanding that lawmakers respond.
We must do our part: amplify their call, make that demand our own call nationwide. The federal agencies involved do not need more funding; instead, their overwhelming use of force must be outmatched by oversight and civilian control. The ofiicers and superiors responsible must be held to account.
Email your Representative in the House today, as they resume negotiations in reply to the Senate’s vote last week. Say ICE Out! No more DHS funding. No more attacks on our communities; not immigrants or their allies!

Context:
Last week, the Senate passed funding bills for human needs programs and other expenditures, while separating Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding under a two-week Continuing Resolution (CR). That DHS bill includes funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Now the legislation returns to the House, where the fight over DHS, ICE, and CBP funding will resume. We must raise a righteous ruckus to urge Congress to impose better oversight and accountability and to constrain the reckless and lawless activity.
With OBBBA, Congress gave DHS billions of dollars in multiyear funding. This came at the expense of human needs programs, especially Medicaid, SNAP, and the Affordable Care Act. OBBBA has robbed average Americans to detain and deport our neighbors, while enriching various corporate actors and the billionaire oligarchic players.
DHS, ICE, and CBP do not need more money. Instead, Congress should be clawing back billions of dollars, which have supercharged their enforcement capacity and, in turn, unleashed terror on our communities.
Tell the House: ICE Out! No more DHS funding. No more attacks on our communities; not immigrants or their allies!
UU Grounding
As of General Assembly 2024, as Unitarian Universalists, we have agreed to “adopt new language on core religious values.” We agree love is the power that holds us together and is at the center of our shared values. The values we share include all the following, which we hold as inseparable and deeply interconnected: Interdependence, Pluralism, Justice, Transformation, Generosity, and Equity. (Read more on the Article II revision process.)
With these agreed core religious values in mind, we also ground our call to preserve easy access to the vote in support of immigration justice in the following Unitarian Universalist Statements:
