Oppose Funding for ICE and CBP in FY2026 DHS Bill
Congress continues to consider additional funding for ICE and CBP as it negotiates the government spending bill ahead of its January 30th deadline. This, despite the recent killing of Alex Jeffrey Pretti.
Just last week, the House passed its bill; now negotiations shift to the Senate. The Senate should not make the mistake of the House. The upper chamber should not give ICE and CBP more funds while they continue to invade, terrorize, and kill. We must demand limits, accountability, and a cessation to the hostility and violence.
The killing of both Alex Pretti and Renee Good by ICE agents in Minneapolis is not an isolated tragedy, but part of a clear pattern of callous and inhumane disregard of life and law. Both Alex and Renée were killed by the many hands of federal systems of oppression, not only by the hands of ICE or CBP officers. Americans have the right to observe, monitor, record, fact-check, and object to government activity under the First Amendment as a form of constitutionally protected free speech and assembly.
Congress must stop negotiations on the FY2026 Department of Homeland Security funding bill until diligent, responsible investigations are conducted.
Email your Senators: We, the people, object. We raise our voices together. They must act on our behalf.

With these agreed core religious values in mind, we also ground our call to preserve easy access to the vote in support of immigration justice in the following Unitarian Universalist Statements:
