It's time to Raise the Minimum Wage to $15/hr Nationwide!
Support the Raise the Wage Act & Accelerate a Compassionate Economic Recovery
Why Are We Writing? When the federal minimum wage was first established back in the 1930s, it was intended to be a living wage. The problem is that over the years, we've raised it so infrequently and so inadequately that the gap between where it is today and where it needs to be as a living wage is enormous.
Why now? As supporters of this economic justice policy, we’ve never been closer to victory. For nearly a decade, workers and activists of faith have lifted up the need to raise the min. wage. Now, a bill to raise the min. wage to $15/hr is about to be announced in Congress, and the Biden Administration has included the new federal min. wage requirement as part of its COVID-relief legislative package.
Key Message & Our Ask: It is time to call on Congress to support the Raise the Wage Act of 2021 (S.150 / H.R.582), as a starting point, by cosponsoring this important legislation to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 during the first 100 Days of the 117th Congress as a top priority in early 2021. This should be done through the swiftest action possible in passing this legislation, whether as part of a larger COVID-19 relief package, a stand-alone bill, or via another legislative vehicle or process.

Dear Senator ______________, [write to both of your Senators]
I’m a Unitarian Universalist and supporter of the Unitarian Universalists for Social Justice.
I urge you to take action to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 during the first 100 Days of the 117th Congress. I am asking you to support the Raise the Wage Act of 2021 by cosponsoring this important legislation, and to do everything you can to support its passage as a top priority in early 2021. I feel called by my faith to make this plea.

I believe a federal minimum wage of $15/hr is a first, critical step toward assuring a compassionate recovery from the pandemic in America. When established in the 1930s, it was intended to be a living wage.
It's time to do this as part of being a caring and compassionate nation to working Americans. For me it's a matter of faith, to hold my neighbor in love, and with care, honoring their human dignity.
Sincerely,
For nearly a decade, workers and activists of faith and compassion have lifted up the dire need to raise the minimum wage. Now, a bill to raise the minimum wage to $15/hr has been announced in Congress, and the Biden Administration has included the new minimum as part of COVID- relief.
As a coalition of supporters for this economic justice policy, we’ve never been closer to victory. So now we must tell Congress to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 during the first 100 Days of the 117th Congress. We must ask them to support the Raise the Wage Act of 2021 as a first step, and do everything in their power to win $15/hr nationwide. Congress must raise the minimum wage from the poverty-level wage of $7.25/hr to something that helps Americans win back the benefits of productivity gains since the 1970s.
