Since February, both chambers of Congress have been negotiating budget proposals that will advance a cruel calculus: to extend tax cuts for the wealthy and billionaire few, to ramp-up a misguided and counterproductive immigration agenda, they are taking healthcare and food assistance – basic needs spending – away from everyday, average Americans.
From the many to fund the few. Cutting the caring programs to bulk up the draconian programs.
It's been a bad proposal for America, it remains a bad deal for America: for our communities and our pocketbooks, for our neighbors both the un-documented, and legally allowed, as well as our kith and kin of humble means.
We've had multiple actions on this topic during 2025 so far, but now, the action is simple -- tell your House member to "Vote No" on the Reconciliation bill.

As of General Assembly 2024, as Unitarian Universalists, we have agreed to “adopt new language on core religious values.” We agree love is the power that holds us together and is at the center of our shared values. The values we share include all the following, which we hold as inseparable and deeply interconnected: Interdependence, Pluralism, Justice, Transformation, Generosity, and Equity. With these agreed core religious values in mind, we also ground our call for support of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers in the following Unitarian Universalist Statements:
The budget proposal package takes from the many to fund the few. It cuts caring programs to supercharge draconian programs.
