"There is a fierce urgency of now in our nation"
Martin Luther King, Jr.

UUSJ is an avid supporter and partner of the Poor People's Campaign (PPC). As well, UU's around the country work closely with PPC and support its mission. Below is a message from one such person

My name is Bill Fogarty. I am a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, Virginia, just across the river from the upcoming March on Washington on June 18. Why am I organizing and showing up for the Poor People’s Mass Mobilization on June 18? If I had to sum it up in a two-word slogan, it would be this: "Unfinished Business".

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had a vision for a Poor People's Campaign to be held in 1968. His full vision could not be implemented, cut short by his assassination, and by America's unwillingness to address the three evils of capitalism, militarism, and racism. Now is the time to finish what Dr. King started. To use one of his famous phrases -- there is a fierce urgency of now in our nation.

As a Unitarian Universalist, it is my deep belief that we need to live out our Second Principle -- we need to bring justice, equity, and compassion into the world. And we can make a start by simply showing up.

I invite you to join me in Washington, DC, on June 18. To borrow another famous saying -- if not now when? I hope to see you in the UU crowd!
