Friend, continue to lift your voice to say ICE Out!
Join the Extended Nationwide UU Mobilization

Freind,

We are extending the National UU Week of Action, led by various UU State Action Networks (SANs) in collaboration with the UU Solidarity Initiative (UUSI). UUSJ is a founding partner of the UUSI.

This past week of action has been so meaningful; you asked for more. Over 1,500 joined to take action. So many volunteers agreed to lead a blitz hour, we are doing a second week.

Next week will include:

  • Another five days of virtual action hours curated by UU organizations. Join any, or all. See the options below.
  • More independent phone call blitz activity, calls to Congress conducted by Congregations.

The Demands remain relevant:

  • Action now: Get ICE and CBP out of our communities.
  • We want real cuts: Cut the annual funding to ICE and CBP (DHS) and then reuse reconciliation funds for health care.
  • We want policy change: Make legislative choices and determinations that will stop the violence for good.

Friend, why continue this? Why now?

We are now in a week long sprint for justice. We are building on the successful UU quick-response across multiple UU organizations last week to maintain pressure. We are positioning for a shutdown fight specifically on DHS and the activity of ICE and CBP.

  • Last week the House passed a spending package on many things; with that package, they included a short term continuing Resolution for the Department of Homeland Security bill.
  • We are pushing our high-level demands, which speak to 10 detailed policy requirements.
  • Top-line message: Vote no on any additional DHS funding until permanent cuts are made to ICE and CBP, and Congress forces reforms that stop the violence.
  • A unique moment of people power is creating friction pushing Congress to act, and act differently; we need to do everything that we can to shove legislators into a posture of real accountability and oversight.
  • We can't tolerate the status quo. The status quo would mean agents continuing to kill people in the streets. The status quo would mean ICE and CBP to get more money to do the tyrannical things they are already doing.

That is why the work you are doing is critical, timely, and needed. We are bringing our UU capacity together from across our UU ecosystem to provide a multi-vector engagement.
